"I oppose kratom bans as well as any sort of legislation that attempts to limit the public's access to it for many reasons. The first reason, probably being the most important in principal, is freedom of choice. Evidence shows that it's extremely safe. Many over-the-counter medications are actually more dangerous than kratom in the sense that they have a much narrower safety margin before they become toxic; meaning it's more difficult to "overdose" on kratom than many over-the-counter medications.The second reason being how many ways it has helped me and the degree to which I've benefited from that help. I depended on opioids for pain relief for several years. It wasn't long before I was physically dependent on them such that without them I suffered horrific withdrawal. I eventually also found myself psychologically addicted to them. I began taking more than prescribed. When I'd run out early, having no legal way to get more, I desperately looked for any possible source regardless of its legality. This quickly led me to spending time in both jail & prison. Shortly after my release from prison I was lucky enough to hear about kratom. I had my doubts that it would actually be of any help, but not wanting to repeat my past mistakes I gave it a try.
